The Love of Trains and Steam Locomotives

By Michael W.P. Ball The fascination for trains occurred when I was about 4 years old. I lived across the street from the Great Northern Roundhouse in Interbay Seattle as World War II was coming to a close. My father took me with him to the roundhouse one morning. I can remember these huge steam locomotives as we stood between two of them. I was fascinated by the experience until one of the engines blew steam out of a side valve. It scared the heck out of me and I grab my dad’s pant leg and tried climb up his leg. This experience didn’t change my feelings for steam engines. I would cross the big street with one of my friends and we would watch the engines on the turntable. When I was nine I rode the Union Pacific with my great aunt to Salt Lake City from Seattle. That was my first train ride and became my favorite railroad. A few years later (about 1954) after the steam era had begun to close I rode my bicycle with friends to the Interbay roundhouse. This was several miles from where I was living. When we got there one of the engineers allowed us to board an F unit and ride with him for a few minutes. It was a great experience. When I would travel with my parents I was constantly looking for trains. During the late forties and fifties, there were a bevy of trains to see along the route from Seattle, Washington to Salt Lake City, Utah. The highways usually followed the train routes and I saw all kinds of steam engines and early diesels. As the freeways took over the train tracks disappeared from view. The loss of the steam engine era was sad and disappointing. The diesel became the king of the road and has remained so to date. One should spend time reading books on these massive steam locomotives and begins to understand their prowess and power that helped the United Sates immeasurable during World War II. Find videos that were taken during those years and have been reproduced by several companies. There is always the hobby of trains which I have been doing for the last 50 years. There is a great deal of information available to investigate and learn from. Being a hobbyist intensifies the learning curve. The sad thing is very few Americans know anything about our railroad heritage. It has been going in a big way at least since 1838 in this country. Joy Ball has been involved in the restoration and maintenance of a variety of Brass Model Locomotives. Through her years of expertise, Mrs. Ball has perfected the art of train restoration often spending countless hours preserving vintage Brass Locomotives to running condition of even the newest Brass Model Replicas. A Couple Christening Party Games for Everyone

By Gail Leino The Christening is an important event for the parents of a baby, though the child probably wont remember it, but youll certainly remember whether or not you had any good Christening party games after the event. Youll probably have a few kids and adults and some older people at the party so youll want a mixture of christening party games to choose from. Push Along: This is a fun Christening party game any guests can really get into, well everyone who is still limber enough to play. You can certainly encourage those not playing to cheer and root for their favorite Christening party game player. Those in the race must pretend to be babies and push a ping pong ball to the finish line with their nose. Be sure to get enough ping pong balls for the Christening party games because everyone in the race will need to have one. Also set up a start line and a finish line with masking tape, string or a chalk line. Its tough to stay on a straight course when playing push along so make sure you separate the players enough that they dont run into each other. Feeding Time: This is a laugh riot to have at your Christening party games, but it may be more suitable for a Christening where a lot of adults are present. The women at the party will sit in chairs on the opposite side of the Christening party area. Give each woman a baby bottle filled with something to drink (you can use milk) and each woman should also have a bib shes going to put on her baby. Set the same number of men at the starting line of the Christening party games area. When the race begins, the men will run to the women and one man will get into each womans lap. The women should tie the bib on their baby and then feed him from the bottle. The men cant touch the bottles with their hands. When a team has finished their bottle, the woman removes the bib and they both run back to the starting line. The first pair to complete the Christening party game task is the winners. When you get the guests at the Christening party games together it will be loads of fun for all. Take lots of pictures, especially during the second game because its a riot! Mrs. Party… Gail Leino takes a common sense approach to planning and organizing events, celebrations and holiday parties with unique ideas for Christening party supplies and fun free educational party games. The Bride Wore a Fountain: the Tribulations of Finding the Perfect Wedding Gown

By Lisa Koosis “I do not want to look like a fountain.” I remember saying something along those lines in response to a question from my grandmother. We were walking out of yet another bridal boutique, where I’d rummaged through rack after rack of gowns without finding even a single one to try on. I was frustrated, she was frustrated, and we were running out of bridal shops within the shopping area we’d chosen. It was a variation on a theme. “I don’t want to look like the wedding cake,” I’d say sometimes, or “I don’t plan on looking like a bleached Flamenco dancer.” In shop after shop I’d search through plastic-wrapped dresses glittering with beads, draped in ruffles, stiff with lace. Each was beautiful in its own way, and the brides-to-be who were trying them on looked like fairy princesses. But those long-trained, sweeping dresses weren’t for me. Let’s face it. I’d never been a traditional kind of girl. Why would I be a traditional bride? “We’ll try another store,” my grandmother would say, though we both knew that the outcome would be the same. After weeks of shopping, my mother said, “If you can’t find something, I’ll make you something. We can piece together features from different dress patterns. We’ll just have to get creative.” It was a thoughtful, generous offer, but a nerve-wracking one for both of us. Instead of looking at dresses, we’d be looking at patterns, and there was no guarantee that I’d find a pattern that I liked. More than that, though, it would be a huge amount of work for my mother and there’d be no guarantee that when it was done, it would be what I was looking for either. A picture on a page can potentially be worlds different from the actual real-world result. Beyond that, my mother and I were separated by a two-plus-hour drive, which was going to make fittings and the like difficult, especially with both of us working full time and me planning a wedding. “Well, we’ll figure it out when you come for a visit,” my mother said, and we left it at that. It was the week before I was to head up for a visit when she called me. “I found your wedding dress,” she said. “Sure you did,” I said, not believing her for a second. But sure enough, when I went for the visit, she took me to a local dress shop and showed me the dress. It was beautiful, and I was certain it would make me look like neither a wedding cake nor a fountain. My mother was relieved to have been saved from the monumental task of sewing a wedding dress. My grandmother was relieved at the promise of an end to dress shopping. And I’d venture to say that I was the most relieved of all. After all, I’d started to consider walking down the aisle in my favorite tie-dyed tee-shirt and jeans. But still, how on earth was I going to work this out? Buying a wedding dress from a store that was nowhere near my home was not going to be easy. The clerk there took pity on me. “The designer has a catalog,” she said. “Why don’t you bring the catalog to a formalwear store near where you live and ask if they can order it for you?” Truthfully, being young, such a thing had never occurred to me. She gave me the number to call for a catalog and when I got the catalog, sure enough, there was my dress. With the catalog in hand, my grandmother and I headed for the local bridal shop. “Can you order it?” I asked and held my breath, waiting to be laughed at. The woman smiled. “Of course.” Within weeks, I had my perfect wedding gown, at a bridal shop right around the corner from my home, where it was easy to schedule fittings into my work schedule. The truth of the matter is that some brides just aren’t traditional, and no matter how many racks of dresses a store displays, for many brides-to-be, it isn’t going to be easy to find that perfect bridal gown. Don’t be afraid to go a nontraditional path. If you aren’t finding what you want in the local boutiques, look for bridal gowns while you’re on vacation or visiting out-of-area relatives. Browse for bridal gowns on the internet. Find designers that you like and order their catalogs. In the meantime, find a reputable bridal shop nearby. Chances are, they’ll be willing and able to order a dress for you. Often, at your risk of losing a small deposit, they’ll order more than one so that you can see them in person and can try them on before making your final decision — particularly bridal outlets that can add the dress to their inventory if you decide not to take it. Any bride can have the dress of their dreams with a little creative thinking. I certainly did, and I’ll never forget my grandmother’s expression when I tried on my dress for the first time. “It’s just perfect,” my grandmother said. “Now all we need is to find a veil.” I raised my eyebrows and smiled. “Who said I’m wearing a veil?” Lisa is a proud non-traditionalist. Paralegals - Top Organizations You Need To Know

By Scott Knutson The career field of paralegals began developing in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s as lawyers began hiring the assistants to help them with paper work, case investigation and general duties. As more attorneys began hiring legal assistance, the American Bar Association formed the Standing Committee on Legal Assistance to help set the standard in the paralegal - attorney relationship, employment guidelines and other duties associated with the paralegal, or legal assistant. That committee was formed in the late 1960s and today is made up of both attorneys and professional paralegals. The American Bar Association offers a certification program to institutions that give courses in paralegal instruction which gives the bar association the opportunity to set standards in the education of legal assistants. There are several major national professional organizations for paralegals in the United States, in addition to their representation in the American Bar Association. Some of those organizations have helped form the career field of the paralegal, or legal assistant. Two professional organizations, the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), together represent more than 30,000 paralegals across the U.S. The organizations, while both working to serve the paralegal profession, have been competitive while determining the language that helps shape the profession. The NFPA prefers usage of the word paralegal while NALA prefers the term legal assistant. The American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) is an organization of institutions and teachers of paralegal education programs. The organization strives for consistent paralegal education standards. A new organization for paralegals began in 2003 and quickly began setting standards in the legal assistant field. The American Alliance of Paralegals serves individuals. Members in the American Alliance of Paralegals are required to meet certain educational or work experience guidelines in order to be a voting member. The organization was the first national organization for paralegals to become involved in setting minimum educational standards and guidelines. If you are a paralegal hoping to gain membership in a national professional organization, do some research to see what type of associations are typical to your area. The national organizations will likely have state and regional groups meeting in your area, or a nearby area. Talk to other paralegals in your area to see if they have professional membership in one of these organizations. Ask about benefits and professional development training the organizations offer. If you are just entering a career as a paralegal or just beginning training for such a career, see if a professional membership can help you in your career plans. Perhaps an organization that offers various networking or job notice work boards would be of benefit to someone seeking to enter the field. Membership could be like having an insider pulling for you. Also, if you are a student planning to enter the paralegal field, a national organization might be able to hook you up with scholarship or other financial award information to help you complete your training. Contact all the paralegal organizations you can find to see if they have special information that might help you along your path to your legal career. The Start of Uzumaki Naruto

By Amyobus Key Naruto is a complex and delightful story of a difficult child who wants to be the greatest Ninja ever. Like many of the anime that were derived from their manga, it has developed a great and loyal following, not merely because of the complexity, but the intense emotions and deep motivations. Uzumaki Naruto is a child that many children his age can identify with. It is a story of heroes and challenges, with just the right amount of silliness, humor, and budding romance. In the beginning, Naruto is a noisy, arrogant, troublesome child, who performs disrespectful pranks around his village. He thinks he is going to be the greatest ninja ever, yet when he is tested, cannot perform even the simplest of techniques which all the other students have mastered. Alone, without any parents to look after him, he is identified with by his teacher, Iruka-sensei, who has also been alone since he was a child. It is known to everyone in the village, but not to Naruto, that he has a monster nine-tailed fox sealed inside of him. Twelve years earlier, the demon fox had attacked the village, destroying it, and killing Iruka’s parents. But the village recovered, and the demon fox was neutralized by sealing it inside the newly-born child, Uzumaki Naruto. It was forbidden for anyone in the village to ever reveal the truth to others, especially to the child himself. Alone, unrecognized and despised by everybody, Naruto performs his pranks to try to gain attention. In the end, when another final exam comes by, all the students are given the chance to demonstrate their developing ninja powers. Everyone passes, except Naruto, who attempts to create a replication of himself, but only succeeds in creating an absurd, weak, useless replication. Iruka, his teacher, has no choice but to fail him. Naruto is depressed, seeing everyone else graduate and acquire the symbol of graduation, a metal plate with the village symbol that they wear as a forehead protector. Fate and an evil force conspire to give Naruto a second chance. A sly and untrustworthy teacher, Mizuki-sensei, befriends Naruto and convinces him that he can graduate if he steals the Scroll of Sealing and uses its immense and dangerous powers to learn impressive techniques that will allow him to pass. Secretly, Mizuki manipulates Naruto for his own ambition to steal the scroll. He is prepared to kill Naruto in the process. Naruto steals the scroll and learns one primary and powerful technique. The head of the village, the Hokage-sama is angry by the theft, and sends the village ninjas out to find the childish thief. They are angry, saying that this was no mere prank, but a very dangerous act. Even Hokage-sama realizes that Naruto can cause great damage, and may even be able to unwittingly unseal the demon fox within him. When Iruka has found Naruto, the boy is confused and exhausted. He has practised over and over one of the forbidden techniques. The teacher and student are set upon by Mizuki. The traitorous sensei injures and disables Iruka, ready to take the next step and steal the scroll and kill both witnesses. Iruka protects Naruto, who runs away, scampering off on all fours just like a fox. Mizuki pursues and catches up, but Iruka appears and is able to protect his student once more. When Naruto finds out the truth about the demon fox sealed inside of him, he realizes that Iruka is a loyal teacher and friend, who has only ever tried to help him. Mizuki attacks, but Naruto, still just a boy, unleashes his newly-developed technique of multiple shadow replication. The astonished Mizuki is beaten up by the hundreds of Naruto duplicates. Iruka is impressed, deciding then to graduate the boy. He gives Naruto his metal forehead protector as a symbol, and the boy is pleased and proud. But the wise Iruka-sensei warns the boy that the path of the ninja is just beginning and it will be a lot harder from here-on. Episode one ends on a note that is upbeat and with the anticipation of many adventures and lessons to come. Quick Ways To Salvage Your Wedding Budget

By Lesley-Ann Graham Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life, and of course you want to splurge a little to make it special. But sticking to your budget is important too, especially if you don’t want to start your life together neck-deep in debt. The first step is to identify what’s most important to you, spend on what matters, and cut corners on the things that don’t. This differs from bride to bride. Some ask a friend to take the pictures but spend an open bar and a big band-others want professional photographs, and schedule a lunch reception because it’s less expensive than a dinner menu. If you’re not sure what your priorities are, ask yourself these questions: what do I want to remember about the wedding? Is it “my guests had the time of their life” or “I had the dress of my dreams”? Take your cue from there. Also, buy a notebook and write down all your expenses related to the wedding, and have all your receipts in a file. Aside from the obvious costs like ordering the invitations, don’t forget the incidental expenses like having all of them mailed. Every month, review your tally of costs with your fiance. If you find that you have gone over your budget, then rein the expenses in. Here are some ways you can cut corners: Flowers - Explore other ways of decorating the church or reception tables: Seashells, scented candles, balloon bouquets. Always use flowers that are in season. Photography and Videography - Don’t order the wedding album or frame-you can do this yourself at a later time, when you’re not as deluged with expenses. You can ask a friend to do the videography, or approach a college or university film club. Most film students would be happy for a chance to earn a little extra on a weekend, and won’t charge as much as a professional cameraman. Reception - Adjust the time of your reception so you can serve brunch or tea instead of lunch or dinner. You can also order separate meals for your suppliers (e.g., band, host), or a children’s menu for any young guests (they’d be happier with hotdogs, anyway). Another way of getting big bargains is to look for those that offer “special packages” that include the cake, food, use of the venue itself, and even extras like limo service. Souvenirs - Make them yourself, if you have the time. For example, place several chocolate kisses into a small tin, while the more artistically inclined can make very inexpensive frames from materials in a crafts store. Or you can kill two birds with one stone, and ask a friend to take “studio” shots of your guests against a special set-up in the corner. Give them a copy of the picture to take home as a souvenir, while simultaneously compiling an album. Cake - If you really want a high-tiered cake, you can always ask for mock Styrofoam layers so you get the impact but don’t spend on something that most people won’t eat, anyway. Did You Market Yourself Today?

By George Torok “If you build a better mouse trap - the world will beat a path to your door.” Do you still believe that? Let’s try another one. “Go to school; get a good job; and the company will look after you.” The first statement is from Emerson - the second you may have heard from your parents. Both are no longer true. Don’t blame your parents or Emerson for their dated wisdom - things change. You still have to be good at what you do. But, in any career you choose today - you must learn ‘the job’ plus how to sell and market yourself. Marketing is not selling. Marketing is everything you do - or don’t do that helps you sell (or hinders you). You cannot ‘not market’. Marketing is about sending messages and everything you do or don’t do sends a message about you. The way you answer, or don’t answer your phone sends a message. Send out a sloppy resume and that sends a message. You can influence how others perceive you if you follow the Secrets of Power Marketing. What you know and can do is not necessarily how others see you. What they perceive is a combination of their beliefs and your intended and unintended messages. You must be aware of all these messages and manage the perceptions. Do you want to be seen as an expert? A good person? A thorough worker? A fun individual? An intellectual? Sensible? Analytical? Creative? Use creative ways of sending your message. Here are some simple tips you can use. For more tips read - Secrets of Power Marketing - a refreshing guide to personal marketing for individuals who want to succeed. Get involved in your community. Volunteer to work on a fund-raising campaign. Become a spokesperson for your club or association. The more the public sees your name the more ‘they think they know you’. If they know you, they have a chance to like you and we would rather hire, promote, or recommend someone we like. Build relationships with key decision makers. Send them a thank-you note when they did something to help you. Send a note of congratulations when they did something that deserves a compliment. Recommend a book that you think they would like. Clip and send them an article that might interest them, (maybe this one). Meet for coffee, breakfast or lunch. Never stop marketing. Why Is My Case Taking So Long?

By Wayne Walker CapTran is a litigation financial services company that makes working capital loan to law firms as well as pre-settlement advances to plaintiff. Financially stressed plaintiffs come to us for financial help in order to be able to sustain themselves while waiting for their case to resolve. We are not a law firm and we offer no legal advice. However, we do have a great deal of experience investing in personal injury cases. The observations and comments in this article are a result of those experiences. One of the most common questions we are asked is “Why is my case taking so long?” Many clients get angry as the time between the injury and the claim settlement gets longer and longer. Plaintiffs often vent their anger at their attorneys for the delay when, in most cases, it is not their fault. We constantly hear clients complain that their attorney is “not doing anything” or “my attorney won’t tell me anything”. CapTran has invested in thousands of personal injury cases and has dealt with literally thousands of personal injury attorneys and their staffs. Our experience tells us that there are many reasons for the delay and in order to determine whether or not your case is going unusually slow it is important to understand how the claim process works. First and foremost is the fact that insurance companies are in no hurry to settle. The longer they can hang on to the money, the more investment income they can earn. While many states have bad faith insurance laws that require insurance companies to handle claims in good faith, many continue to move as slowly as they think the law will allow. Certain insurance companies are especially slow to deal with and some have even been successfully sued under the bad faith insurance laws. Most cases settle without a lawsuit. Notice we say “claim process” and not lawsuit. That is because year in and year out, most personal injury claims are settled without a lawsuit. For example, insurance industry survey data reveals that 95%-96% of all motor vehicle bodily injury claims are settled without a lawsuit ever being filed. Attorneys only file lawsuits as a last resort if the claim cannot be settled through negotiation with the tortfeasor’s (defendant’s) insurance carrier. Should I hire an attorney or handle the claim myself? If what you just read about settlement data has you thinking that, if it is so easy to settle a case, maybe you should handle the claim yourself, think again. Study after study shows that claims paid to claimants without legal representation are lower than those with legal counsel. The claims process Your attorney will notify the defendant’s insurance company that counsel is representing you. The insurance company will assign an adjuster to work on your claim. This is the person with whom your attorney will negotiate to secure the best settlement possible. There are two parts to the claims process - liability and damages. LIABILITY The first part of the claims process is establishing liability. If there is any question of liability the claims process will come to a screeching halt. Plaintiffs always seem to feel that the question of liability is cut and dried since a police officer may have arrived at the scene and issued a traffic ticket to the defendant. However, it may not be that simple: The defendant may have subsequently challenged the ticket and won. The defendant may have a valid excuse such as an emergency situation that made the accident unavoidable. In many states, such ‘emergency” actions are valid defenses. The defendant may be a governmental entity with sovereign immunity meaning they can’t be sued. You may be considered partly (not mostly) responsible and in some states such “contributory” negligence may prevent you from suing. Your own history and conduct will have an impact on the insurance adjuster’s view of liability. Some of the things that will make an adjuster question liability are: 1. If you went to the emergency room and the medical report reveals drugs or alcohol present in your bloodstream. 2. If you have a prior criminal record. 3. Previous injuries. If you have had a previous injury the adjuster may question if the injury is really a result of the previous accident or condition rather than the current accident. 4. Subsequent injuries. If you have a subsequent injury resulting in another insurance claim, the adjuster will begin to wonder if you are a scam artist. At the very least, you will have two insurance companies claiming that your injuries were the result of the other driver’s negligence. While we find that in most cases insurance carriers do not challenge liability without good reason, we cannot emphasize too strongly that only a qualified personal injury attorney can adequately represent you on liability questions. DAMAGES Generally, the most time consuming issue is the question of damages. Since your physical injuries are most likely the largest component of your claim value, your attorney must know the answers to the following questions: 1. What were your injuries? 2. What treatment did you receive? 3. What were your medical expenses? 4. Have you stopped being treated and have you reached what is called maximum medical improvement (MMI)? MMI means that additional treatment will not make you any better. I t is important for you to understand that while you are still being treated your attorney can do very little if anything to move your case along. Why? Until your condition has been fully treated and you have reached MMI, your attorney has no way of determining how much to ask for! To help speed your things along, make sure that you do the following: Be diligent in your medical treatment. Make sure that your attorney receives proper documentation from your medical providers. Ask your attorney if there is anything further that you need to provide. When you stop treating ask your attorney when a demand letter will be sent to the insurance company. DEMAND LETTER When your attorney is sure that you have reached MMI and that all facts pertinent to your claim are known, a “demand letter” will be sent to the insurance adjuster. The demand letter will contain a recitation of the facts of the accident, theory of liability and demand for payment for the damages you have suffered. We have seen all kinds of demand letters. Some attorneys treat demand letters like simple business documents and others seem to see them as an art form offering the chance to wax poetically about the grievous nature of your injuries. Insurance adjusters see thousands of demand letters and are expert at plowing through the verbiage to get at the real issues. It is important to ask your attorney for a copy of the demand letter so that you can be sure that your claim is complete. Be diligent and patient Once you are satisfied that you have finished medical treatment (and are at MMI) and your attorney has submitted an accurate demand letter, you must be patient and diligent. If there are no liability issues and your claim does not have the appearance of fraud or buildup, your claim will be processed by the insurance company’s adjuster. Time really starts now. All of the time up to this point means nothing. Be diligent in checking with your attorney to see if the insurance company has responded as well as to make sure that there are no issues that have arisen of which you should be ware. If you have reached this point, be patient. Your attorney wants the same thing you do; to have the case settled to your satisfaction and get paid. Can’t get Him out of the Pub

By Nick Young It is funny that, how he always seems to want to do stuff on his own or with his mates. Never with you and the kids. Does it take a heap of bargaining to get him to spend a day with you. Not a good basis for a happy relationship do you think. Unless of course you prefer it that way rather than have him around getting in your way. Then you hardly have a basis for a relationship or hardly a relationship at all. The kids don’t have a father either so the whole situation is a bit disfunctional don’t you think. What do you want out of this relationship. You have to be very clear of that first. If you want a ‘normal’ relationship where you spend most of your time together and have fun doing it then it is time for a few changes. We must determine why he would rather spend his free time with someone else. Not that we are saying that you are not fun to be around but just look at things in an honest light here. Are you fun to be around. Do you always give him a hard time over all sorts of stuff when you are together. Are you always on his back to get something done or mow the grass or fix something. Do the kids run wild and drive him mad when he is there. There has to be a reason that he prefers to go out. If you want him to change you are going to have to make it worth his while. Maybe he doesn’t deserve that but someone has to make the sacrifice to get some changes happening. Is it worth it to you. Think about that. Do you want him home with you and the kids as a family. Do you want to do stuff together every weekend as a family. Do you want him to look forward to getting home with you and just loving spending time with you. If you want all those things then you have decided to make that sacrifice. Make it a definate decision. It is not going to happen overnight but is is a goal you can work towards. What can you do, what can you change. Lets start with the basics. New hairdo. Lose some weight. Get fit and get some new gear. Try some lingerie and some trendy gear and look sexy again. Take some pride in your looks and you will start to feel better about yourself. As your confidence comes back you can start to change your atitude towards him. Take the lead sexually for a change. Watch his eye brows raise when you do that. Try yout new lingerie at the same time. Meet him at the door when he gets home dressed to kill. Spoil him with your meal preparation and generally make him feel good. Now, he may not deserve all this and he probably doesn’t but you have to make the decision to do it anyway and just let it happen. It will take a little time but he will start to enjoy being home again. His attitude will change and then all that sacrificing on your part will start to pay off. He will be yours again and enjoying it and doing all the right things towards you. That work on your part will be all worthwhile. It is going to be a big sacrifice on your part but if you really think it is worth it then go for it. At the very least you will be a much better person for the excercise. Garden Plaques: Make Your Garden The Stuff of Angelic Dreams

By Sharon Goldman Garden plaques are tablets, usually made out of wood and either suspended, appended to a vertical surface like a wall, or posted like a sign out of the ground. Garden plaques can either be brief or very long, and poetic, informative, or both. Depending on the situation, garden plaques have a variety of purposes: identification, commemoration, or decorative. An example of an identification plaque would be a family marker, such as The Smiths, to accompany an address or erected out front of home. The brief descriptions one finds at museums are also identification plaques, although these are not really garden plaques. Commemorative plaques, though, are more varied. A headstone and historical marker are examples of this (garden plaques need not only be made of wood. Headstones are found in cemeteries, which are usually treated like gardens). Decorative plaques, as those seen in a garden, would be markers with flowers painted on them to add flare to the scene. Garden plaques can be made in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on the length of the message and the degree of ornamentation included on them. The aforementioned headstone would have the deceases name, dates, possible quote, and even the addition of angelic iconography. These stones would naturally be larger that a headstone inserted in the ground and bearing only a name and dates. Some headstones are round while others are rectangular, square, or cross-shaped. Family markers are the same way. Garden plaques can even be in the form of 3-dimensional images, such as animals, mythical or cultural designs, cosmological bodies (moon, sun, stars, etc.), or everyday items, like hearts, ribbons, books, even cars. When it comes to the possible style of garden plaques, the imagination is the limit! Garden plaques come in an array of prices. Plaquemaker.com offers plaques starting at $14.00 for one. The more plaques purchased, the cheaper each plaque is. $4.00 is the cheapest for one in a package having a 101-to-250 quantity. A variety of garden plaques offered here, with inscriptions made in at least ten different possible colors, have designs that are based on the customers personal preference. For those interested, these are fun to have and to look at. They spice up the garden, the house, or wherever they are placed. Garden plaques are memorable and always in fashion! Garden Plaques have an incredible ability to “take you there”, whether it’s a fairy tale, or a sense of tranquility, these items certainly have a spirit all unto themselves!
